What is truth?
What is Truth?

The short answer to the question “what is truth?” is that the truth is the truth no matter what we believe. It is said that there are many paths to achieving the truth. Does it matter what path we use to get there?

It is easy to turn pure white, a definite truth, into gray with rationalization. I do it all of the time. I inject my hopes and desires into a definite truth to make it fit my wants or perceived needs thus diluting the truth. Any truth can be distorted to fit our needs.

Let's explore the statement "the sky is blue". Most would agree but I don't. Allow me my attempt at distortion. Certainly I see blue most of the time because I live in the desert. But what about clouds? They are white, gray, and during a great thunderstorm even purple. So the sky isn't "blue" it is multi-colored. "Clouds are clouds", you say? Yes, but where do they reside? In the sky. As part of the sky they have to be considered and therefore the sky is not blue, it has many colors.

Not convinced? Let me use science. The things that we see with our eyes are the result of what is reflected. From the sky we see the blue part of the spectrum that reflects back to us. All of the colors we don't see are the parts of the spectrum that are absorbed. Think about it. The reflected aspect is not within the element. The character of any element is all that is within, or what has been absorbed. Therefore the sky is every color but blue!

Now let's go back to the beginning. The truth is the truth no matter what we believe. I know there are those who could be convinced by the previous arguments. But, if I believe it and you are convinced does that make it true?
